Rakeysh Mehra, who has previously made socio-political dramas like Rang De Basanti and Delhi 6, and a sports drama like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, is venturing into the romantic territory for the first time with Mirzya, a legendary tragic love story, starring two newcomers Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher.

Mehra and screenwriter Gulzar decided to tell the Punjabi folk lore in today’s times by juxtaposing it with the older era. In an exclusive interview with Cinestaan.com, the director explains why they were compelled to make the older era look so fantastical.

“When you are watching something so true and so real [in the contemporary love story] then when you juxtapose it with another era, it is should be fantastical,” he said.
