Riteish Deshmukh’s Banjo goes mute at the box-office

Ravi Jadhav is the most successful filmmaker in the Marathi arena currently. So, there were some expectations from his Hindi directorial debut, Banjo, which stars Riteish Deshmukh in the lead. However, the film has proved to be a disappoinement as far as box-office success is concerned. 

It has managed to earn only Rs5.50 crore in its opening weekend, which is much less than what was expected of it. On the first three days, it made Rs1.50 crore, Rs 1.75 crore and Rs2.25 crore,, respectively. The film is made approximately at a budge of Rs30 crore. So, in all probability, it is heading towards becoming a loss making venture for producer, Eros International. 

Banjo tells the story of street musicians from Mumbai’s lower strata of society and how they are encouraged to dream big by a musician from the US, played by Nargis Fakhri.

Parched and Days Of Tafree, which also released alongside Banjo, managed a paltry sum of Rs60 lakh each in the first weekend. The collections of the rest of the films released this week — Umrika, Wah Taj! and Dil Sala Sanki — are too low to mention.
