Finally, the trailer to Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is out. With a more in-depth look at the story of the Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan triangle, the trailer looks fresh and hip, unlike the dark themed song videos that preceded it. With one-liners and philosophical questions on love and friendship, the film has the typical Karan Johar stamp, which is a good sign.

Stylishly edited, and interspersed with the already popular 'Bulleya' song, the trailer seems set for a viral welcome. By the looks of it, the story revolves around the complicated evolution of the friendship between Kapoor and Sharma into love. Fawad Khan and Rai Bachchan add more dimension to the complexity by playing the other members that complicate this relationship. Johar made his directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, with this very theme, and also experimented with it in Kal Ho Naa Ho. The themes of unrequited love, fear of commitment, friendship, loss will look familiar to audiences. One particular line 'Ajeeb kahani hai pyaar aur dosti ki... Pyaar hamara hero..aur dosti hamari heroine' is a standout line.

The trailer has been handled with a deft hand, and offers glimpses into the evolution of Johar's direction. It also offers a glimpse into the thematical marriage preparations that are associated with the director. The freshness in the trailer, which hopefully carries through in the film, comes from the cast. The Kapoor-Sharma pairing is promising, but pales under the shadow of Kapoor-Rai Bachchan. The actress looks stunning, and at ease playing the no-strings-attached muse of Kapoor. She commands the screen with her eyes, and offers the perfect foil for Kapoor's vulnerability.

In all, this looks like the perfect platform for Johar to make his return to the top echelons. Now, all one has to do is wait till 28 October for the film to release.
