Pink goes red hot with Rs21.44 crore on weekend, Raaz Reboot drops

Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's Pink might have had an average star cast, apart from Amitabh Bachchan, but this little film has taken the box office by a storm. The film has taken off from its first day earnings of Rs4.19 crore, to end up making a fabulous collection of Rs21.44 crore on the weekend. 

Pink, starring Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Angad Bedi among others, saw a slow start on its first day with Rs4.19 crore. However, the favourable reviews of the film ensured an increased occupancy on Saturday. The film saw an 80% rise with a Saturday turnover of Rs7.50 crore. This trend of growth continued through the weekend. Sunday saw the film increase its collection with Rs9.75 crore. This ensures that the weekend collection for Chowdhury's film is Rs21.44 crore. 

Friday - Rs4.19 crore

Saturday - Rs7.50 crore

Sunday - Rs9.75 crore

Though the film is targeted mainly at a urban multiplex audience, the rise in the numbers spells good things for it. The film needed to break the Rs20 crore barrier over the weekend, which it has comfortably managed, and will see a profitable rise through the rest of the week. Speculative reports suggest that the trend should remain the same on Monday, and will see the film's collections match its Sunday returns. 

By standards, Pink is going the lines of other female-oriented films like Piku (2015) and Neerja (2016). The film has actually managed to match up to the weekend collection of Neerja at Rs21.99 crore. 

The film's only competitor, Emraan Hashmi starrer Raaz Reboot, has struggled to touch the Rs20 crore mark. Vikram Bhatt's horror escapade earned Rs5.13 crore on its first day, following it up with Rs4.75 crore on Saturday, and Rs5.50 crore approximate on Sunday. This brings its approximate total to Rs15.38 crore.

Raaz Reboot's weekend collection is very similar to the previous venture of the franchise, Raaz: The Mystery Continues, which managed Rs25.50 crore at the box office. It is highly unlikely that Bhatt's latest film would top this number. 

This is good news for Pink, which could build and accumulate a considerable lead at the box office. The film is certainly painting the box office in a new colour.
