Director David Dhawan is set to return to action with the remake of his 1997 comedy Judwaa. Titled Judwaa 2, and starring his son Varun, the film is set for a 29 September 2017 release. Judwaa 2 will be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

David returns to direction after making Main Tera Hero, starring Varun, which did not enjoy commercial success.

The original Judwaa had Salman Khan in a double role, while Karisma Kapoor and Rambha played Khan's love interests.

The last few days have seen several filmmakers announcing release dates well in advance for their upcoming projects. Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan will clash again on Christmas 2018 with their respective releases — Aanand L Rai's untitled project and Krrish 4. Salman Khan has booked Tiger Zinda Hai for Christmas 2017. Akshay Kumar has lined up Crack for Independence Day in 2017, and if buzz is to be believed, he's set to star in Omung Kumar's 2018 Republic Day release.
