For almost a decade now, Katrina Kaif has reigned over the box office in Hindi cinema. But with three back-to-back flops to her name, the actress is in desperate need of a hit. The announcement of the sequel to Ek Tha Tiger, alongside Salman Khan, spells good news for Kaif. The actress is expected to have a meatier, action-packed role in the sequel. She will be seen reprising her role as a spy from the previous film.
Reports suggest Tiger Zinda Hai will see the actress doing some major action sequences for the first time. Kaif has traditionally stayed away from action sequences, although she was seen performing some stunts in films like Dhoom 3 (2013) and Phantom (2015). The film will reportedly have the actress perform hand-to-hand combat sequences and flying movements which can be physically taxing.
Kaif has already begun training for a lithe, flexible physique to suit the needs of the film. She has reportedly signed on Yasmin Karachiwala, who has trained Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt among others, to help with a fitness programme.
Kaif will be the latest of lead actresses to take up action sequences for a film after Shraddha Kapoor's in Baaghi (2016) and Sonakshi Sinha in Akira (2016). Even Deepika Padukone (XXX: The Return of Xander Cage) and Priyanka Chopra (Quantico, Baywatch) have tapped into the action genre overseas.
The only films Kaif has scheduled are Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos which is expected to release in August next year. The actress needs something to turn her luck at the box-office. Maybe a renewed and fighting fit Kaif might just do it!
