Katrina Kaif to receive Smita Patil Memorial Award for contribution to cinema

Katrina Kaif isn’t exactly going through a positive phase right now after her much talked about and important film Baar Baar Dekho received a mixed response and failed to work at the box-office. But she has at least some silver lining in store.
 
The actress has been selected as the recipient of the Smita Patil Memorial Award by Priyadarshini Academy for her contribution to Hindi cinema. The award will be presented to her on 19 September at Global Awards ceremony in Mumbai by the group. 

Speaking to a leading daily about her choice, the chairman of Priyadarshini Academy said, “This award goes to her as recognition to an outstanding individual who has shown excellence in her field.” In 2014, Priyanka Chopra had won the award. 

Kaif has been under constant scrutiny for her acting chops. The news about her winning the Smita Patil Memorial Award generated a series of extreme reactions on social media.
