Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's romantic saga opened slowly, but fared much better than Prabhudeva's Tutak Tutak Tutiya or MSG 3.

Mirzya had a slow opening day netting Rs1.75 crore in its collections. The dull opening is understandable since the film carries high visuals and a complex story structure. This might not be appealing to the morning theatre-going crowd. The major target demographic in the North has also stayed away from the film due to its style and visual element offering the feel of an art film. The film might also have suffered from low word of mouth publicity owing to its content. The weekend might see the collections increase but might not change drastically.
Mirzya's collections are quite in the range of small films like Madaari and Freaky Ali. However, Mehra's previous film, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, too opened slowly, but slowly picked up pace over the weekends.
On the other hand, Mirzya remains the most successful film in theatres this opening day. Its closest competitor, surprisingly, is not Prabhudeva's horror comedy Tutak Tutak Tutiya. MSG — The Warrior Lionheart in a turn of surreal events, like the film itself, managed to rake in Rs1-1.25 crore. However, this collection was based on the block bookings of the film, even before it arrived in theatres. There remains the question of whether this is a promotional ploy, or true earnings of the film.
Prabhudeva's Tutak Tutak Tutiya managed a deflating Rs40 lakh collection on Friday. This spells doom for the film since the collections are unlikely to improve over the weekend, or even afterwards.
