Female superheroes won’t be accepted: Rakesh Roshan

Over the last five years or so, the era of female-centric films have emerged in mainstream Hindi cinema. Films with a central female character are finally finding their place and that too regularly. Kahaani, The Dirty Picture, Queen and Neerja are some prolific examples of the trend.

However, films with female superheroes haven’t arrived in India yet and going by the present, it seems the wait will be long. At least, this is what filmmaker Rakesh Roshan believes.

Roshan is the only Hindi filmmaker to have found success in superhero films in the form of Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013), both starring his son Hrithik. But he believes that female superheroes won’t get accepted in the country. But, as per his opinion, it is okay to have a superheroine to a superhero.

Speaking to a publication, he said, “If I have a superhero in my film, then I can have a ‘superheroine’. I don’t think I can make a female-based film, as I believe the audience won’t accept that.”

The filmmaker is now gearing up for the next film in the Krrish franchise. Krrish 4 was earlier supposed to release alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Aanand L Rai’s next on Christmas 2018. But the clash was avoided after Roshan met Khan recently.
