Veteran actor Om Puri landed himself in a controversy after he allegedly insulted a soldier who died fighting militants in Jammu & Kashmir yesterday.

During a television debate, when it was pointed out that an Indian solider had been martyred, Puri responded, “So what? Did we ever force him to join the forces?”

Not just that, the Ardh Satya (1983) actor went on to suggest that suicide bombers from India should be sent to Pakistan. Following this, he left the show after facing extreme protests from the other panellists.

Puri’s comments created an uproar on social media. His co-actor and friend Anupam Kher too expressed his disappointment at his remarks.

Now, a fresh development has taken place in the case. An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against the actor at Andheri police station in Mumbai for allegedly insulting the martyr.

The complainant, named Prithvi Mhaske, has requested for a sedition charge to be filed against the actor under section 124(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

During the debate, Puri also said there should not be a war between India and Pakistan and cited the example of Israel and Palestine. He also pointed out that a lot of Indian families have relatives in Pakistan.
