Two days after reports that Nawazuddin Siddiqui's sister-in-law had filed a complaint against him and her in-laws for harassing her for dowry, the actor has come out with his side of the story, defending his family and accusing his sister-in-law's uncle and his wife of attempted robbery.
Siddiqui’s sister-in-law had filed a complaint at the Muzaffarnagar police station against her in-laws, her husband Minazuddin, and against Siddiqui for allegedly beating her up on 28 September. The woman is said to be three months pregnant.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Siddiqui rubbished all allegations against him and his family, and instead filed a counter complaint against his sister-in-law’s uncle and his wife for stealing.
“I'm falsely charged by my sister-in-law because I am a soft target for her. She wants to get publicity from all this. I'm an actor, so that could also be a reason for her allegations. Had it happened with a common man, it would not have made headlines,” Siddiqui said at the press conference.
The actor claimed to have produced CCTV footage of the incident that proves that the uncle and his wife barged into their house and robbed them. Click here to watch the footage.
Narrating the incident, Siddiqui explained, “They said that when the whole incident happened, the CCTV camera was switched off and we hit them. But thankfully the CCTV camera was on. So, clearly they have been proved wrong here.
"Secondly, they said I hit that woman in her stomach. However, in the CCTV footage that I have issued publicly on YouTube, you can clearly see that I have not even touched her.
"Thirdly, they said when we were beating them, they were shouting and all our neighbours came in. However, again you can see that when they robbed us and were fleeing, except for the family nobody else was there."
The actor expressed disappointment at the family dispute going public. Siddiqui claimed that nothing was wrong between his brother and his sister-in-law, who were married in May this year.
The actor added that around Rs15,000 was stolen, and some gold ornaments are missing. The police is investigating the matter.
This is the second occasion this year when the actor has found himself in a soup. Earlier this year, Siddiqui was involved in a feud with his society members over parking. A fellow member from his Mumbai housing society had accused Siddiqui’s guards of pushing her.
