MS Dhoni's midas touch is rubbing off on his biopic as well. M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story had a fabulous opening weekend scoring Rs62 crore net. This collection accounts only for the Hindi version of the film. The Tamil and Telugu versions have also reportedly done well and grossed around Rs3.75 crore each. This makes it a great opening for a biopic which lacks any villains or drama.

The collections of the film have majorly come from the northern sector, which is understandable. In comparison, the performance of the film is pretty close to Bang Bang (2015) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013). The film earned Rs20 crore on its opening day, and followed it up with Rs19 crore on Saturday and Rs23 crore on Sunday. The falling of Gandhi Jayanti on Sunday added to the increased revenue.

Friday - Rs20 crore
Saturday - Rs19 crore
Sunday - Rs23 crore

Total - Rs62 crore

The weekend collection means that MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is a declared hit. It remains to be seen if the film will manage to keep up the consistency of its collections and make it to the superhit category. The trend for the film is certainly positive, and suggested a huge draw at multiplexes and urban centres. However, the possibility of the film holding the same occupancy rates on the weekdays seems unlikely.
