Deepika Padukone has competition. Aditi Rao Hydari has reportedly signed on to play Begum Kamla Devi in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati. She will be cast opposite Ranveer Singh, who plays Sultan Alauddin Khilji in the film.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is expected to be another big budget period epic revolving around the story of Khilji's infatuation with the beautiful Padmavati. Bhansali has already achieved a casting coup by bringing Singh, Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor together as the three major protagonists of the film. Singh will be playing Khilji, while Kapoor is cast as Maharaja Rawal Ratan Singh and Padukone as Padmavati. Mumbai Mirror has now reported that Hydari will be joining the cast to play Khilji's chief begum, Kamla Devi. The report quoted a source saying, "There have been several meetings that between Bhansali and Aditi and the director has finally decided on Aditi over four other choices. At the moment, the costumes and set designs are being finalised and the film rolls by November-end."
Hydari has just wrapped up shooting for a Mani Ratnam film in Tamil, titled Kaatru Veliyidai, opposite actor Karthi. Meanwhile, Singh has already begun preparations for his role, and is expected to start shooting for Bhansali's film from November.
