If the first film gave a new generation of rock musicians in Hindi cinema voice, Rock On 2 aims to find validation in a new generation. The trailer to Shujaat Saudagar's film has Shraddha Kapoor playing the young protege who brings the disassembling band, Magik, together for one performance. Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, and Purab Kohli reprise their roles from the first film, while Shashank Arora and Shraddha Kapoor offer representation to a new brigade.
As always, their musical journey is fraught with tears, battles with the self, and great conflict. The story continues from where Magik last left off, with Farhan living far away from his family, while the rest of the gang are pursuing their own careers in music. Shraddha Kapoor plays the talented protege, inspired by the band, but struggling against her father's disapproval of her talent.
The trailer is a lot more edgier than the songs released so far, and contains the Rock On anthem to boot. What makes it even more interesting is the North East setting of the film. With the huge blast, and almost war like scenes shown in the trailer, there is an indication that it might touch upon some political elements as the background to a new struggle.
The cast is a little older, just like the fans of the original film, and evoke a sense of nostalgia. The addition of talents like Kumud Mishra looks promising. The music from Shankar Ehsaan Loy is quite inspiring and upbeat, but it remains to be seen if it will match up to the original soundtrack.
Rock On 2 is directed by Shujaat Saudagar, and is set to release on 11 November.
