Akshay Kumar to hunt for 'Gold' with Reema Kagti

The actor's next film directed by Reema Kagti, titled Gold, will be based on independent India's first gold medal at the Olympics.

Even as Aamir Khan's Dangal tells the story of four girls in the hunt for a gold medal, Akshay Kumar has joined the race as well. The actor has just tweeted the first poster for his next film with Reema Kagti, titled Gold.

From the Khiladi Kumar's tweet, we surmise that the film is based on Independent India's first ever gold medal at the 1948 Summer Olympics for field hockey.

The 1948 Olympics saw the Indian field hockey team comprising of Kishan Lal, Leslie Claudius, Keshav Dutt among others defeat the British team to win the gold. The film is scheduled to release on 15 August 2018.

This would be Kumar's third film based on a patriotic sub-plot after Airlift (2016) and Rustom (2016). The film is also Kumar's first team up with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment. Considering the sporting inclinations of Kumar, and the success of his films with patriotic sub-plots, this might be one to watch out for. There has been no revelation about Kumar's character in the film.

The date of the film also ensures that Kumar has two back to back Independence day slots booked. Akshay Kumar will be seen in Neeraj Pandey's Crack, which is slated for release on 15 August 2017.

Looks like the Khiladi is upping his game.
