Here's something for Shah Rukh Khan fans to celebrate. Mani Kaul's Ahmaq, one of king Khan's first ever film roles, will be screened at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
The film, initially produced as a four-part miniseries by Doordarshan in 1991, was based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel, The Idiot. It was screened at the New York Film Festival in 1992, and also won the Filmfare Critics' Award for Best Movie in 1993. Directed by Kaul, the film starred Khan, Mita Vashisht and British-Pakistani actor, Ayub Khan-Din.
Ahmaq will be screened under the new programme of the film festival called 'The New Medium'. The segment is being curated by artist Shaina Anand. The miniseries is expected to be shown as a complete four-hour film. Audiences might also have a chance to have a discussion of the film after the screening with actress Vashisht and cinematographer Piyush Shah.
Khan was certainly excited about the reprisal of his old movie. He announced the screening of the movie to his followers on Twitter.
The 'New Medium' section of the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival will also screen Uday Shankar's Kalpana (1948), restored by the World Cinema Foundation, along with another iconic work of cinema, Light Music (1975) by Lis Rhodes.
The Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival is being held from 20-27 October this month.
