All the speculation around Padmavati can finally lay to rest. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom18 Motion Pictures have made an official announcement with regards to the film’s cast and release date.
While it was a forgone conclusion that Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh were to play the central characters in the film, the makers made an official announcement.
Confirming their association with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, Sudhanshu Vats, Group CEO, Viacom 18 posted the confirmation on Twitter.
While the cast came as no surprise, the official Twitter handle of Padmavati has put the release date as 15 December, 2017.
This date is a tad surprising as just a week later, Padmavati will face stiff competition from the Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai. The sequel to Khan’s 2012 spy thriller Ek Tha Tiger will be helmed by Sultan director Ali Abbas Zafar.
Trade media would express surprise at Padmavati release date but one must not forget that in December last year, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani stole the march over Shah Rukh Khan’s much fancied Dilwale.
It must be recalled that Bhansali had adopted a similar strategy by announcing the release date of Bajirao Mastani a year in advance. The first schedule of Padmavati will be shot in Mehboob Studio in Mumbai. Later on, the film will be shot in Jaipur.
