The decision of the Narendra Modi government to scrap currency notes of Rs500 and Rs1000 denomination has taken the country, and social media, by storm.

The move, though planned, came as a complete surprise to the public. This has ensured non-stop congratulatory messages for the government from all quarters.

This includes Hindi film celebrities. Prominent names like Amitabh Bachchan, Karan Johar, Anupam Kher, Farhan Akhtar, Emraan Hashmi, Anurag Kashyap and others have praised the move through their tweets.

Here are some of the reactions that flooded Twitter after the news broke:

Even director Anurag Kashyap, whose last tweets against the prime minister got him into trouble, praised the move.

Although sources suggest that the move might have a slightly negative effect on the box office over the weekend, the film industry seems buoyed by this bold move against 'black money'.
