Karan Johar hits back at 'irresponsible' remarks about Ae Dil Hai Mushkil dialogues

The director wrote a scathing tweet on his social media account calling statements about the 'insulting dialogue' in the film irresponsible and attempts to 'mask insecurities'.

Producer-director Karan Johar seems to have had enough of the controversy around his latest release Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. After the most recent comment by Vidhu Vinod Chopra saying he was 'not interested' in watching Johar's film, the director tweeted a scathing reply to his detractors.

Writing on his social media account, Johar said, "Filmmakers making irresponsible remarks at events... singers revelling in self importance... press releases sent to mask insecurities! Ufff...."

One does not have to read between the lines to know whom the tweet is addressed to. It was Sonu Nigam and Bappi Lahiri who had come out with strong words against a dialogue in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which was considered insulting to the legacy of the legendary playback singer Mohammed Rafi.

The line went: 'Mohammed Rafi gaate nahi, rotey the [Rafi used to cry, not sing]'. Since then, the controversy has snowballed, leading to reports that the Central Board of Film Certification might ask the filmmaker to mute the line in the film.

The recent comment by filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra about not being interested in seeing Johar's film perhaps did not go down well with Johar.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has been doing reasonably well at the box office. The film has fared better than Ajay Devgn's Shivaay in the Diwali clash of biggies. For Johar though, the battle seems to continue.
