Priyanka Chopra, now a successful actress and producer, reminisced about the moment when she clinched the Miss World title 16 years ago. She said she had no idea what she was getting into. Nevertheless, "what a ride it's been" for her.
Chopra re-tweeted on Wednesday a fan's post on the crowning moment at the pageant. She captioned it: "Wow... 18-year-old me with no idea of what I was getting into. But what a ride it's been. Thank you all. Miss World 2000."
On 30 November 2000, Chopra was crowned Miss World, the fifth Indian to bag the title.
Like most beauty queens, she tried her hand at movies. After making her Hindi film debut in 2003 with The Hero: Love Story Of A Spy, she went on to star in acclaimed films like Fashion (2008), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Barfi! (2012) and Mary Kom (2014).
The Padma Shri awardee has also carved a niche for herself on foreign shores. In 2012, she entertained music lovers with her single 'In My City', featuring American rapper will.i.am. The next year, she released 'Exotic' with Grammy award-winning rapper Pitbull.
Chopra, 34, is now being lauded for her act in the American TV series Quantico. She also plays villain in the Hollywood film Baywatch, due next year.
Though she has international projects in hand, Chopra is ensuring that Indian regional cinema gets a push. Through her and mother Madhu Chopra's Purple Pebble Pictures, she has committed to provide "a platform for great stories to be told, irrespective of language or genre".
Chopra recently unveiled the trailer of her production venture Sarvann, a Punjabi film.
