It is now becoming clear which of the two Diwali releases, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay, will walk away with a victory at the box office.
The Karan Johar film has been ahead of Shivaay ever since the films opened last Friday. With the sixth day's collections being announced today, we can safely conclude that ADHM is the winner as far as box-office numbers go.
The Ranbir Kapoor starrer passed the difficult Wednesday test yesterday by scoring Rs 7.50 crore at the box office, taking its total to Rs72 crore nett. Shivaay also saw a drop, earning Rs5.75 crore. The figures were shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
Despite winning the Diwali box-office clash, ADHM needs to be consistent for a while longer before it can be declared a hit. The film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs85-90 crore and, as a result, will need to go well past the Rs100 crore mark in box-office collections.
Shivaay, on the other hand, is on the verge of becoming a box-office failure. Its high cost of production, which is touted to be around Rs105 crore, is making things very difficult for Devgn, who produced, directed and acted in it. The film has currently amassed only Rs56.40 crore and with the first week almost over, it appears set to go the way of Hrithik Roshan's Mohenjo Daro and be declared a flop. In fact, the loss for the film would have been much more if there hadn't been a big jump in collections on Monday (Rs15.75 crore) and Tuesday (Rs11 crore).
Coming back to ADHM, the film’s performance in the second weekend will seal its final fate at the ticket windows.
