It is not every day that you cross the landmark of 50 years in your life. Shah Rukh Khan, who turned 51 yesterday, rang in his birthday with a party at his beach house at Alibaug, a resort about 100km from Mumbai, before spending a quiet day with friends and colleagues.

The actor usually celebrates his birthdays back home at the celebrated mansion Mannat in Bandra, but this time he went all out for his friends.

Khan took his family and friends for an outing to his beach house in Alibaug, where close friend Karan Johar, Ranbir Kapoor, Ayan Mukherji, Gauri Shinde, and Imtiaz Ali joined him.

Khan has worked or is working for three of the four filmmakers in that group this year, signing on for Shinde's Dear Zindagi and Ali's tentatively titled The Ring, and making a special appearance in Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

The actor was gracious enough to celebrate his birthday with actor Sanjay Kapoor's daughter Shanaya. Kapoor was among the first to tweet a picture of the two 'birthday celebrities' on his Instagram page.

Gauri Khan played the gracious hostess as ever at the party, with daughter Suhana for company.

Amitabh Bachchan's daughter, Shweta Nanda, and filmmaker Zoya Akhtar too made an appearance at the party.

Khan's daughter, Suhana, took the time to invite some of her friends to her dad's party as well. Khan's son Aryan, who is busy with college life in London, gave the party a miss. Suhana more than made up for it with her stylish appearance.

The celebrations at the beach house lasted the whole day, and continued when they returned to Khan's residence Mannat. While Khan took the chopper back, the rest of the troupe returned by ferry to the Gateway of India. By all accounts, the party was quite a stylish affair. The day certainly began in good spirits for Khan, with son Aryan posting a lovely message on his social media page that read, "He can play like a kid, give advice like a friend and protect like a bodyguard. Happy Birthday to you. We love you boss man."

If you thought all this would have left the actor a little drained of energy, you are mistaken. Khan even took time to pose for the hordes of fans standing outside his home, waiting for a glimpse of him.

For a man who has reigned over Hindi cinema for almost a quarter century, Shah Rukh Khan continues to show an inspiring energy and dedication to his fans and his craft. Long live the King, we say.
