Actress Amrita Singh, who memorably played Arjun Kapoor’s mother in the North-South romance 2 States (2014), was scheduled to play his mother once again in the Anees Bazmee film, Mubarakan. However, new reports say Singh had date issues and had to leave the project.
Singh has previously also acted with Arjun’s uncle Anil Kapoor in Saaheb (1985) and Chameli Ki Shaadi (1986) and would have had a reunion with her former co-star. Actress Ratna Pathak Shah, who appeared in Anil’s home production Khoobsurat (2014) with his daughter Sonam, is stepping in to play Arjun’s mother.
Arjun plays twin brothers, Karanveer and Charanveer Singh, in the film set to release next year. Actresses Ileana D’Cruz, Neha Sharma and Athiya Shetty are said to be Arjun’s love interests in the film.
The young actor took to Twitter to respond to the way the news media was reporting the change of casting. He called out the Amar Ujala newspaper headline and wrote, “I don't normally react to what's written about me but for a man who's lost his mother I find this headline highly distasteful & insensitive.” The headline stated "Toh isiliye Arjun Kapoor ko chhod kar chali gaayi unki 'ma'' (So that's why Arjun Kapoor's mother left him!) Arjun lost his mother Mona Shourie Kapoor to cancer in 2012 just before his big screen debut in Ishaqzaade.
Mubarakan will release on 28 July 2017.
