Actress Renuka Shahane had openly praised the decision to discontinue old Rs500 and Rs1,000 currency notes earlier. But she didn’t mince words while stating that she was not at all pleased with the execution of the demonetisation move.
Speaking at the ongoing International Film Festival of India in Goa, she said, “The execution of the demonetisation of Rs500 and Rs1,000 currency notes has been terrible. It was terrible to the people who didn’t need more troubles in their life.”
She also indirectly took a dig at people like Vijay Mallya who are facing no problems despite having tons of black money. “The people who get way with a lot of black money have already gotten away with it,” she added.
More than a week ago, the nation came to a standstill when Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, threw in a surprise by demonetising notes of Rs500 and Rs1,000 from that day onwards. The supposed reason towards the decision was to curb corruption and hoarding of black money.
The decision was majorly lauded by the people of India, although some sections either criticised or expressed their doubts over it. However, the criticisms towards the government gradually started to increase in the days followed due to reports of numerous deaths and other serious inconveniences faced, especially by people from the lower strata of society.
People from the film fraternity have majorly kept mum over the demonetisation chaos. Veteran actor Mohanlal went on to highly praise the decision yesterday in his blog in Malayalam.
