A character he has never played before, being a father to a 17-year-old daughter and his complete dependency on women made Khan act in Gauri Shinde’s film.

The wait will be over this Friday as Dear Zindagi hits the theatres. Though it's a cameo, Shah Rukh Khan has been making waves for his bearded look and his mentor-like role in the slice-of-life film.

The superstar isn’t averse to playing cameo roles. He recently did one in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and has done so in the past in films like Army (1996), Dulha Mil Gaya (2010) and Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (2000).

Dear Zindagi: Alia Bhatt wants to fit into any kind of mould

Khan, who is also the producer of Dear Zindagi, explained his reasons for taking up the extended cameo in Shinde’s drama.

"I am in an extended cameo in the movie. But even then, I feel I have never done such a role ever in my life. So I take this opportunity to thank both of them (Gauri Shinde and Alia Bhatt) for allowing me to be a part of this film," Khan told ANI.

Further explaining his reasons for taking up the film, the 51-year-old actor said, "For me, being father to a 17-year-old girl and otherwise being a person whose life and profession has been completely dependent on women, is the reason I am part of this film.”
