With only days to go for the release of Gauri Shinde’s Dear Zindagi starring Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt, the makers of the film have released yet another song, ‘Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le – Take 1’. This one, though, is a bit different.
Originally written by Gulzar for 1983’s Sadma with Kamal Haasan and Sridevi, ‘Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le – Take 1’ has been reworked by composer Amit Trivedi. His frequent collaborator Arijit Singh takes the reins on his third song for the soundtrack. The original was sung by Suresh Wadkar.
The video contrasts between the different moments of life; it opens with a tense Bhatt, who plays the central character Kaira. Alternating between colourful and black-and-white montages, the song attempts to show the conflicts running through Kaira’s mind as she navigates through life.
Interestingly, Kaira’s potential love interests, played by Kunal Kapoor and Angad Bedi, are both shown in the B&W sections where Kaira is shown crying. Khan’s mentor-like character, Jahangir Khan, seems like the steadying force in her life.
‘Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le – Take 1’ is a far cry from the breezy number ‘Tu Hi Hai’ sung by Arijit Singh last week.
Dear Zindagi, which also features Aditya Roy Kapur and Ali Zafar, will be released on 25 November.
