Release of Sonakshi Sinha’s Noor pushed back

The Sunhil Sippy film will avoid a clash with Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos and release two weeks later.

Noor, based on Pakistani author Saba Imtiaz's novel Karachi, You're Killing Me!, was initially supposed to be released on 7 April 2017 and go up against the Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif spy comedy, Jagga Jasoos. Since the breakup of the two stars, interest in Jagga Jasoos is high and therefore Noor will now be released on 21 April 2017.

The Akira actress described her character Noor as “sunshine mixed with a little hurricane; she’s every girl” in the latest announcement of the release of her next film.

Sinha has seen moderate success with her 2016 films, Akira and Force 2; while the films have not done well financially, her work in them, especially her action avatar in Akira, has been appreciated.

In Noor, Sinha plays a young journalist who tries to balance her relationships at work and at home with the growing demands of her career.

Saba Imtiaz’s 2014 novel featured a 20-year-old journalist who covers the city of Karachi and tries to find love as well. She had described her own novel as "Bridget Jones's Diary meets Diary of a Social Butterfly".

Noor also stars Purab Kohli as Ayan Banerjee, a worldly yet cynical photojournalist, Shibani Dandekar as Zara Patel, Noor’s confidante, and comedian Kanan Gill as Saad Sehgal, Noor’s best friend.

Directed by Sunhil Sippy, the film is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Vikram Malhotra.
