Sarvann trailer: Priyanka Chopra’s Punjabi film is full of action and melodrama

This is Chopra's third movie as a producer after Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi and Ventilator.

Priyanka Chopra, along with her mother Dr Madhu Chopra, has started her production house, Purple Pebble Pictures, especially to focus on regional films. She started off with the Bhojpuri film, Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi and followed it up with the recently-released Marathi movie, Ventilator.

Next in line is the Punjabi film, Sarvann. Directed by Karaan Guliani, it stars Amrinder Gill, Simi Chahal and Ranjit Bawa. The first trailer of the film was launched yesterday in Toronto. The event was attended by Priyanka herself.

From the trailer, it seems that the film is full of action and melodrama. The footage has a mixture of action scenes or emotional dialogues. The genre is a mixture of crime and family drama. So, overall Sarvann is like a masala entertainer. Therefore, obviously, it has a chance of being a paisa-vasool entertainer rather than being path-breaking, unless the makers have some surprise in store.

The story starts off in Canada where the protagonist (Gill) is living a life of crime. Something forces him to relocate to his home town in Punjab. This starts a journey of self-realisation born out of inner-conflict. Gill doesn’t showcase something extra-ordinary. But he does fit the central character.

Sarvann is all set to release on the festival of Lohri next year on 13 January. The film is distributed by Vashu Bhagnani.
