Karan Johar's film appears to be on course to at least recover its cost. The same cannot be said for Ajay Devgn's Shivaay.

The box-office battle between Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay continued fiercely on Tuesday (1 November). ADHM continued its good run by collecting Rs12.50 crore on the day, taking its overall total so far to Rs64 crore. Shivaay managed to enter the Rs50 crore club, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. With the Diwali holidays coming to an end, a fall in the numbers is expected for both films.
ADHM saw a big upward trend on Monday by earning Rs17.75 crore on that day. Yesterday, the film didn’t lose much of its momentum. With Rs64 crore already in its kitty, Johar's production is expected to recover its reported cost of Rs85-90 crore.
Shivaay, too, did not drop much yesterday. The action adventure flick amassed Rs11 crore on the day. It had shown an unexpected jump on Monday by earning as much as Rs15.75 crore. However, as the film was reportedly made at a cost of Rs105 crore, it has a long way to go before becoming a safe bet for the producers.
The final position of both films will be realized only when they enter the second week. The good thing for both is that no well-known or much-anticipated film is being released this weekend.
