Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati goes on the floors

Shooting finally begins for the historical film starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor.

After the success of his magnum opus Bajirao Mastani last year, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next is being keenly awaited. The excitement increased manifold when it was revealed that his next is based on the story of Delhi sultan Alauddin Khilji’s obsession with queen Padmavati of Chittor and will star Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor.

There were reports that the film is expected to go on the floors in November, which turned out to be true as Padmavati did go on the floors on the first day of November yesterday.

The news was shared by Shobha Sant, chief operating officer (COO) for Bhansali Films, on Twitter. Sant shared a picture of the clap board along with the caption, “#bigmoment #SanjayLeelaBhansali #Padmavati #ShootCommences at #FilmCity with @RanveerOfficial. ThankU every1 for the #GoodWishes.”

Soon enough, Sarita Singh from Viacom 18 shared a picture of Bhansali and cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee, who had worked with the filmmaker for the first time in Bajirao Mastani.

Reports also suggested that Padmavati’s budget is likely to be the highest ever for a Hindi film. The sets of the film were being prepared at Mumbai’s Mehboob Studios for a long time. The gates were closely guarded by security personnel, making sure nobody gets a glimpse of Bhansali’s vision as of yet.

The film is all set to release on 17 November 2017.
