Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor could be seen sharing screen space together in a casting coup of sorts. However, this won't be for an Indian film, but a Russian one.
Largely unknown to Indian audiences, Russian filmmaker Alexey Petrukhin is keen on casting Khan and Kapoor in his franchise Viy. His last production, which is being filmed currently, Viy 2: Journey to China, stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan.
The next journey of the franchise will be set in India and so director Petrukhin is on the lookout for Indian stars. Viy is an adventure, fantasy drama with Petrukhin being one of the screenwriters. Viy 2 is slated to release next year.
Petrukhin, who is in Mumbai to attend the second edition of the international film festival Russian Film Days, told The Indian Express newspaper, "We have approached Shah Rukh Khan to be the lead actor and also the co-producer of the film. We are awaiting confirmation from him.”
“We approached Khan because we were looking for an actor who is a leader in this industry with his own production house. I am sure SRK will be interested in this type of project because it has world-class appeal and will release world wide,” added.
Petrukhin also expressed his interest in casting Kapoor and wants bring the two actors together for the Viy sequel.
Khan had recently played a cameo in Kapoor’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
