Veteran stage, television and film actor Mukesh Rawal was killed yesterday in an accident between Mumbai’s Borivali and Kandivali railway stations. He was 66.
According to the first information report (FIR) filed with the railway police after the incident, Rawal had left his home at Kandivali yesterday for work. It was at around 9:30 am today that his body was recognized by his son-in-law.
The FIR said the incident took place when Rawal was trying to cross the tracks. The jolt from a passing local train left his body in pieces. The corpse was taken for a post-mortem examination at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Municipal General Hospital in Kandivali.
Rawal was best known for his portrayal of the character Vibheeshan in Ramanand Sagar’s popular TV series Ramayana. He has a strong body of work in Gujarati films and TV serials. He also acted in a number of Hindi films. Some of the prominent ones were Satta (2003), Mrityudaata (1997), Lahoo Ke Do Rang (1997), Shastra (1996) and Woh Phir Aayegi (1988). He was dubbing for an upcoming Gujarati film.
