Rock On!! turned out to be the surprise hit of 2008. In a way it was Hindi cinema’s first rock musical. The film also brought the title of ‘all rounder’ for Farhan Akhtar, who acted and sang for the first time.
In order to cash in on the popularity of the film, the makers came up with its sequel, Rock On 2, which released on Friday. Unfortunately, the film has bombed at the box-office in the first weekend as it has earned a paltry Rs6.90 crore in the first three days (Rs2 crore, Rs2.40 crore and Rs2.50 crore), as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Directed by Shujaat Saudagar, Rock On 2 is reportedly made at a budget of Rs45 crore. With its first weekend collections being under Rs7 crore, the film is heading for a disaster at the box-office.
Despite a good following for the first film, there was hardly any pre-release excitement for the sequel. Although the cast went on city tours, it did little to create much hype.
It is also believed that the film has been affected by the massive demonetisation drive with notes of Rs500 and Rs1,000 being discontinued as a large number of audience still uses cash to purchase film tickets.
