Filmmaker Hansal Mehta will direct his favourite actor Rajkummar Rao for the fourth time in his upcoming feature Omerta. The duo have previously worked together on the National award-winning Shahid (2012), City Lights (2014) and this year’s Aligarh.

Omerta will be the third time Rao will be stepping into the shoes of a real-life character as he did earlier in Shahid and Aligarh. In August, Rajkummar Rao called his Omerta character “one of the most complex characters I've ever played”.

Today, Mehta unveiled the first look of Rao's character in the film in a tweet. He had previously referred to their collaboration as their ‘most radical yet’.

Reportedly Rao plays a terrorist in the film. The poster shows him kneeling for prayer while the words ‘Indian Airlines flight’, ‘American’, ‘Meeting at 4:30’ and ‘9/11 Hijack’ are seen faintly in the background.

Mehta said Omerta was “a pertinent film about our times” and shared a photo from a location shoot. He also shot down the theory from a fan that the film was based on Mario Puzo’s novel of the same name.

Omerta is produced by Swiss Entertainment & Karma Features. No other cast members have been announced yet.
