Iranian director Majid Majidi has won international acclaim around for the world for his heart-warming films, from Children of Heaven (1997) to The Color of Paradise (1999). His next production is set in India with collaboration with Indian filmmakers Shareen Mantri and Kishor Arora.
Tentatively titled Kashmir Afloat, the project will be filmed in Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Kashmir. Majidi has made several trips to India this year to finalise the project which will be casting several Indian actors.
Recent photos from the set of the film show that Majidi has chosen an A-list star, Deepika Padukone as one of the characters. The Bajirao Mastani actress is almost unrecognisable as a rag picker during the shooting on location in Mumbai. Wearing a simple salwar kameez with unkempt hair, Deepika looks a far cry from her glamorous avatar at most red carpet events.
Padukone is set to shoot Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati with Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor soon, but somehow has managed to sneak Majidi’s film in between. Her first Hollywood film, xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage opposite Vin Diesel will release in January 2017.
Majidi’s upcoming film will be in Hindi, English and Persian and should release next year.
