The Diwali festivities on Saturday and Sunday may have hampered their prospects in the opening weekend, but Monday brought in much-needed cheer for both Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
As reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com, Ajay Devgn's Shivaay, which was struggling on the first three days, recorded 140% growth over its Sunday figures on Monday with a collection of Rs15.75 crore. Shivaay had earned a meagre Rs6.50 crore on Sunday with its three-day total barely touching Rs25 crore. The Sunday collections were bound to drop owing to Lakshmi puja, which happens in the evening, resulting in most Hindu households staying at home.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh quoted higher figures for Shivaay.
The spurt in Monday's collections has seen Shivaay’s four-day total rise to Rs39.95 crore, according to BoxOfficeIndia.com. With Tuesday being a holiday in many parts of the country, Devgn will hope that the film pumps in more numbers. After all, with a budget of Rs105 crore, Shivaay needs to cover a lot of ground if it is to break even.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, too, witnessed substantial growth of almost 100% over Sunday. The film, directed by Karan Johar, had bagged Rs8.75 crore on Sunday. The collection on Monday soared to Rs17.75 crore. The film’s four-day collection now stands at Rs51.79 crore.
Like Shivaay, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, too, was made at a high cost (Rs90 crore approximately). However, the chances of it recovering the cost appear brighter than those of Shivaay.
Both films have a clear run at the box office until 10 November. Farhan Akhtar will release Rock On 2 the following day.
Both Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, thus, have ample time to cross the Rs100 crore barrier. The acid test, though, will come tomorrow: Can Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil continue to lure in the crowds on a working Wednesday?
