Together they rocked in the award-winning film Piku (2015), but come June 10, Irrfan Khan will do battle with Amitabh Bachchan at the box office. A few days after Sujoy Ghosh confirmed the release date of his suspense thriller TE3N, director Nishikant Kamat also chose June 10 as the date for releasing his real-life drama Madaari, which stars Irrfan Khan.

Irrfan Khan and Nishikant Kamat are working together again eight years after making Mumbai Meri Jaan (2008). The first look of Madaari was unveiled on social media today, and shows Irrfan Khan sporting a bandana and wrapped in a shawl, holding a pair of sports shoes. The film is said to be inspired by events that occurred during the construction of the Mumbai Metro One on the Andheri-Kurla Road. Irrfan Khan reportedly plays a vigilante in the film.

In 2012, one worker was killed while 11 other people were injured when a slab collapsed at the Metro construction site near the Airport Road station. It is not clear, however, if Madaari is based on this tragedy.

Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan had worked together for the first time in Shoojit Sircar’s Piku (2015). Remarkably, despite being praised by critics and liked by the masses, Irrfan Khan's stellar performance went unrewarded, while Deepika Padukone bagged the popular awards and Amitabh Bachchan picked up the National award for Best Actor.
