After making a name for himself as a villain in Hindi and Southern cinema, Prakash Raj is set to turn director with Tadka, the Hindi remake of the popular Malayalam film Salt 'n' Pepper.

Prakash Raj has roped in seasoned actor Nana Patekar to play the lead. Nana Patekar will be paired with Southern star Shriya Saran. Tadka will also feature Taapsee Pannu and Ali Fazal. The film is being co-produced byZee Studios, Movie Makers Inc and Prakash Raj.

Tadka is a quirky, energetic, colourful, comic tale of the love that brews between a middle-aged couple over their fondness for cooking and for food. It will be shot in Goa. The producers zeroed in on Goa to capture the unique colours and flavours of the tiny Western Indian state.

Salt 'n’ Pepper was remade in Tamil as Un Samayal Arayil, in Telugu as Ulavacharu Biryani, and in Kannada as Oggarane with Prakash Raj playing the lead in all three versions. The Kannada version was a superhit.

Prakash Raj had earlier essayed a small role in Nana Patekar’s 2002 film Shakti. Some of the films in which Prakash Raj's villainy was loved by audiences are Wanted, Dabangg 2, and Singham.
