Film actors, political parties, police gang up against Tanmay Bhat over Sachin-Lata video

AIB member Tanmay Bhat is facing flak from majority over his Snapchat video mocking Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar. The police are also mulling the option of filing an FIR against him.

Tanmay Bhat, one of the comedians of the All India Backchod (AIB), is being slammed left, right and centre for allegedly insulting national icons, Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar in a Snapchat video.

Trouble mounted for him after Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) filed an FIR against him and also reportedly threatened to thrash him for his act. Soon enough, Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) also joined the bandwagon in slamming Tanmay for the video titled, Sachin vs Lata Civil War.

But as if this is not enough, the Mumbai Police, in a statement, then informed that they are trying to reach out to Google and YouTube to request them to delete the video.

The comedian is also facing flak from people from the Hindi film fraternity. Interestingly, during last year’s AIB Roast controversy, a number of Bollywood celebrities stood up for Tanmay and his fellow AIB members. Maybe because his type of humor, especially at Mangeshkar, isn’t finding any takers this time around.

Popular names like Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Riteish Deshmukh, Madhur Bhandarkar, Celina Jaitly and Tanuj Garg have slammed Tanmay. Interestingly, Tendulkar’s wife, Anjali, who isn’t known for voicing her opinion, too has condemned the said video through a tweet.

Surprisingly, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has come out in support of Tanmay through a series of tweets, one of which reads, “Blaming AIB for spoof on Lataji is like blaming a monkey about a monkey for being a monkey.True sense of humour is ability 2 laugh at anyone.”

It will be known soon whether Tanmay will have to face any actions regarding the whole issue. Despite repeated attempts at contacting, the AIB member was unavailable for comment.
