After Student of the Year (2012) and Kapoor and Sons (2016), co-stars and rumoured couple Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt are seemingly all set to share the screen in the third instalment of the Aashiqui franchise.
It has been 26 years since the first film was released with newcomers Anu Aggarwal and Rahul Roy. The sequel, Aashiqui 2 (2013), revived the careers of both its leads, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor.
Speaking to DNA, Sidharth indicated his presence in the franchise. He said, "Yes, Alia and I are doing Aashiqui 3. It’s a great space and I hope people like us."
Reportedly, he will take some singing and guitar lessons to prepare for the film. The previous two films were huge musical hits and the next instalment should replicate that winning formula.
However, Aashiqui 3 is still under development and won't hit theatres until next year. Hrithik Roshan, Kangana Ranaut and Sonam Kapoor were all reportedly considered at some point to be selected as its main stars.
No official word has been released from the makers, Vishesh Films. Alia Bhatt's father, Mahesh Bhatt, directed Aashiqui (1990).
