The keenly awaited trailer of Salman Khan’s Sultan is finally out. As there are high expectations from the film, the same was obviously the case with the promo. After going through this sneak-peak, it won’t be wrong to state that it has lived up to expectation.
Being a commercial Salman Khan film, the trailer is entertaining. However, the most impressive feature is that it does not seem to be a "typical Salman entertainer". The tale of a fallen hero eager to rise again, not only in the wrestling ring but also in life, is something that has impressed even those who are not Salman Khan fans. But one can’t ignore the fact that the film brings back memories of Sylvester Stallone’s classic, Rocky.
It seems the Dabangg actor is now moving towards entertainers that are also high on emotions. His last two releases, Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2016), indicated this. Now, the trailer of Sultan has reinforced this theory. Whether this is a conscious decision by the actor is difficult to say.
The trailer features Salman Khan just like his die-hard fans wish to see him. He looks terrific and succeeds in packing a punch during the wrestling scenes. One also gets an idea that the film might be one of the superstar's few performance-orientated films. Though Anushka Sharma, the leading lady, isn’t given much footage, she, too, promises to be impressive in her role.
The one complaint here is (and it's a problem with a lot of trailers these days) that it gives away almost the entire story. It certainly wasn’t a good idea to reveal such important events from Sultan’s redemption phase and give away the plot. These days, filmmakers need to understand the dangers of adding so many spoilers in the trailer. After all, the audience doesn’t watch a film just to watch the climax.
Sultan revolves around Sultan Ali Khan (Salman Khan), a wrestler from a small town in Haryana, who overcomes professional and personal hurdles to achieve global fame by winning bouts at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the 2011 FILA Wrestling World Championships in Istanbul, and the 2012 London Olympics.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra for Yash Raj Fims, Sultan is set to release on Eid, July 4.
