He has a penchant for dark characters, but this one would put the fear of the devil into Anurag Kashyap himself. The maverick filmmaker unveiled the trailer of his psychotic thriller Raman Raghav 2.0 and it is bound to send shivers down your spine.
Based on the life of the notorious serial killer who terrorised Bombay in the late 1960s, Raman Raghav 2.0 promises plenty of bloody, merciless moments. Nawazuddin Siddiqui appears to have got into the skin of the character, and perhaps the head of the killer too, which may explain his unabashed, unapologetic, heartless show in the trailer. His kidnapping of a child and his dreadful mocking shows how despicable Raman Raghav must have been in real life.
Raman Raghav 2.0 also stars Vicky Kaushal, who plays the police officer on the trail of the psychotic killer. Raman Raghav 2.0 is set for release on June 24.
After making Black Friday (2004) and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), Anurag Kashyap won praise for his dark drama Ugly (2013), which too was inspired by true events. However, Raman Raghav promises to be the darkest, most terrifying of Kashyap’s films so far. It is certainly not for the faint-hearted.
Raman Raghav was a notorious serial killer who killed many pavement dwellers. Little is known of his childhood. He was said to have raped and killed his sister. He was arrested after a citywide manhunt and charged with murder, but after serious debate and tests, it was concluded that he was of unsound mind. Raman Raghav thus escaped the noose and was sent to life in prison. He died in a Mumbai hospital in 1995 of kidney failure.
