The actor, who will next be seen in Abhishek Chaubey's Udta Punjab and Vishal Bhardwaj's Rangoon, plans to take some time off from work for the birth of his first child.

Shahid Kapoor is getting ready to daddy up! Ever since the actor confirmed the news of his wife, Mira's, pregnancy, the rumour mills have been busy tracking the progress of the couple's first child.
In a recent interview with an online daily, the actor confessed that he is more than excited at the birth of his first baby. The actor got married to Mira in July last year. The date of birth is set at September, just before the release of Rangoon on 14 October. The actor has signed on no other films, leading to murmurs that he will be taking a break to spend time with his wife and child.
The actor, who recently said that he was completely ready to taken on the responsibility of being a father, confirmed the rumours. Shahid will indeed be taking time off to be next to his wife and newborn baby. "I have defined the fact that I will be taking a certain amount of days off for my baby. I will not be working for a certain period of time when the baby is coming," he said.
Speaking to a national daily, the actor also said, "It will be a new responsibility. From being an independent individual, you become part of a family and of a wonderful unit. So you feel responsible not just for yourself but for others as well. I am sure my wife (Mira) feels the same way about it. She was an independent individual and now she has responsibility of us being a family."
So far, the actor has proven to be the perfect husband, accompanying his wife to hospital visits and posing lovingly alongside her at events.
Shahid has Abhishek Chaubey's Udta Punjab in July and Vishal Bhardwaj's World War II period piece, Rangoon, releasing next. Knowing Shahid and his dedication to roles, he will be raring to step into the shoes of a dad too.
