Directors Jitendra Tiwari and P Singh's Shorgul was supposed to be released last week, but the film was postponed by seven days for reasons that were undisclosed earlier. However, the makers have now blamed a political conspiracy for the delay.
"A few people from a political party tried sabotaging our film for political gains," said Shashi Verma, creative director, co-writer and actor. "They did succeed, but only partially. The film will now be releasing on 1 July 2016. People would realize that it's a clean film carrying a message of humanity."
When prodded for the name of the person and the party responsible, Verma said, "It won't be right to take the name of the party. Individually, it was MLA Sangeet Som. His supporters also filed a PIL against the film, which was rejected by the Allahabad high court. We would like to tell him to have faith in our law system and not start his own law system."
Sangeet Som is the BJP legislator from Sardhana in Uttar Pradesh. He is among those who were accused of spreading communal hatred and sparking riots in Muzaffarnagar district of Western Uttar Pradesh in 2013, in the run-up to the general election of May 2014. More than 60 people were killed and several thousands rendered homeless in the riots.
Shorgul stars Jimmy Shergill, Sanjay Suri, Ashutosh Rana, Suha Gazen and Narendra Jha.
