Salman Khan replies to MSCW notice but issues no apology

The actor issued a letter to the Maharashtra State Commission for Women on 28 June.

Slammed for his insensitive 'rape' comment, Salman Khan was summoned by the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW), which had called the actor today to explain his controversial comment.

The actor didn’t show up, but he did send a letter to the commission on 28 June reminding them that since the matter had already been taken up by the National Commission for Women (NCW), the MSCW issuing summons to him would only lead to double jeopardy.

MSCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar told reporters that the commission received a letter from Khan but the actor still hasn’t issued an apology. The MSCW is yet to decide what action needs to be taken against the actor. While Khan’s lawyer is keen on the matter being heard by the NCW, Rahatkar said both commissions were entitled to carry out their own investigations.

With no apology coming from Khan, the matter will now stretch further as the MSCW has asked the actor and his lawyer to be present at the next hearing on 7 July.

Khan had raised a storm when in an interview, he compared his exhaustion while filming Sultan to that of a raped woman. Watch this space for more on the controversy.
