Irrfan Khan takes on Rajinikanth, says 'they copied our poster'

The actor took on one of the biggest heavyweights in Indian cinema, Rajinikanth, by saying that the poster for Kabali is a copy of the poster for Irrfan starrer, Madaari.

Actor Irrfan Khan tread into some dangerous waters when he told fans that even Rajinikanth's film had stolen the poster of his upcoming, Madaari. The actor was quick to add that it is no big deal, and urged fans to watch both films.

The similarity between the posters has been doing the rounds of the internet since the first look of Irrfan's film came out. When he was asked about it, the actor said, "Even I didn't know that. We are small filmmakers, I saw that Rajinikanthji's film stole the poster of our film. You see his film's poster and see our film's poster. No big deal about it. Watch his film and watch our film, too."

Here's Irrfan's complete quote.

Here is a look at both posters.

Both the posters have the faces of their lead actors emerging from a crowded city landscape. However, Rajinikanth's poster is not the official poster. Reports suggest that it is a fan-made version, and might be inspired by the Madaari poster itself.

Considering the expectation that surrounds a Rajinikanth film, it is natural that his fans have gone overboard creating posters for their star. However, there are only three official posters out for the film.

The superstar himself had tweeted these for his fans.

Incidentally, both Madaari and Rajinikanth's Kabali are releasing on 15 July.

Considering the popularity of Rajini among his fans, Irrfan might just do better than to take them on, right?
