Independence Day this year will see Hrithik Roshan clash with Akshay Kumar at the box office. While Roshan has lined up a tale of ancient history, Mohenjo Daro, Kumar will be seen in the tragic story of a naval officer, Rustom. Both films will release on 12 August 2016.
Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro got going with a positive response to its poster, but the trailer copped a fair bit of criticism on social media. Akshay Kumar will hope to cash in on the negative vibes around Mohenjo Daro.
Once the official poster of Rustom was released, it did not take long for it to start trending on social media.
The film is based on the story of naval officer Kawas Manekshaw Nanavati, who shot and killed his wife’s lover, playboy businessman Prem Ahuja, in April 1958. The commander fired three bullets into Ahuja, his friend of 15 years, from his service revolver after confronting him in the latter's bedroom. The Nanavati case became one of the most discussed cases in Indian legal history and led to the abolition of jury trials after the jury in the Bombay sessions court found Nanavati not guilty of murder.
Director Tinu Suresh Desai has used the three shots as the catch line of his film. The line, ‘3 shots that shocked the nation’, is the first thing you notice in both the official posters.
Rustom will see Akshay Kumar playing the titular role. The film also stars Ileana D’Cruz, Arjan Bajwa and Esha Gupta. The trailer of the film will be launched soon. The buzz is that it will be unveiled at the screening of Salman Khan’s Sultan on 6 July.
