Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav 2.0 hit the theatres yesterday. Despite a decent amount of hype, the film garnered a poor opening at the box-office by earning only Rs 90 lakh, as per BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film is a dark thriller about a serial killer starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vicky Kaushal and debutant Sobhita Dhulipala.
The advantage for the film is that it is reportedly made at a budget as low as Rs 3 crore. Hence, it is expected to surpass its cost in the first three days.
Yesterday also saw a number of other Hindi film releases. Out of these, Junooniyat earned a mere Rs 55 lakh while 7 Hours To Go fared even worse by collecting Rs 35 lakh. The collection of the rest of the films – Rough Book and A Scandall – fall in the range of below Rs 10 lakh.
Amid such scenes of abysmal turnouts, Hollywood’s keenly awaited Independence Day: Resurgence, which also released yesterday, managed to amass Rs 3.75 crore on the first day. This is yet another instance this year where a Hollywood film has surpassed its Hindi counterparts.
Actor Diljit Dosanjh’s Sardaarji 2 has also tasted success by earning Rs 2.05 crore on its first day, which is highest for any Punjabi film ever.
