The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had ordered 89 cuts in director Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab. The film was finally passed with just one cut after the makers knocked the doors of the Bombay High Court. But soon enough, the CBFC found like-minded individuals across the border after Pakistan’s censor board recently ordered 100 cuts in the film.
As per the latest media reports, the makers of Udta Punjab have now decided not to release the film in the neighbouring country as they feel it is pointless for audiences to view it with these many cuts. Chaubey, in a recent interview, said that it would make no sense to release the film there, although it would amount to loss of revenue for the producers.
Starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh, Udta Punjab has earned around Rs 48 crore in its first eight days, as per the figures by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film continues to run in theatres across India.
