Alerted, the producers swung into action and ensured that the video links were taken down before too much damage was done.

Two days after the Bombay high court ordered the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)  to issue an 'A' certificate to Udta Punjab with just one cut, the film ran into a new controversy when it was leaked online two days before its theatrical release.

The Udta Punjab producers were agitated when they learnt that a copy of the film and the scenes that had been ordered cut by the CBFC, popularly known as the censor board, bearing the legend 'for censor', had appeared on torrent sites.

Soon, some netizens tweeted about the links. As the news spread, the producers moved swiftly, filing a complaint and ensuring that the video links were taken down. Attempts to download the film thereafter were met with a note apologising "for the inconvenience".

The 'for censor' text on the footage led to speculation about who may have leaked the film. The incident is likely to rile producers Anurag Kashyap and Ekta Kapoor further and they may go all out to nail the culprit. But for now they must be hoping that not too much damage has been done to the film's prospects.

Meanwhile, Udta Punjab was granted an Adults Only certificate by the CBFC with just one cut and three disclaimers as directed by the Bombay high court. A joyous Shahid Kapoor, who plays a Punjabi pop star in the film, tweeted a picture of the certificate.
